SCOTTISH No.2 Jamie Baker is through to today’s quarter-finals of the AEGON Pro-Series at Scotstoun after his second-round opponent Charles-Antoine Brezac retired through injury.

Baker was 5-2 up in the first set when his French opponent called it a day due to a hip injury and the Scot wasn’t complaining.  “It actually didn’t work out too badly,” said Baker.

“I had a really long match yesterday which was my first match of the year so I was a bit stiff in the morning.  I just played enough tennis today to get a run out, serve a few games and will now get a bit of rest for tomorrow.”

The 23-year-old now faces Finland’s Timo Nieminen in the quarter-finals.  The Finn is an opponent Baker knows well after suffering a straight sets defeat to him in the second-round at Scotstoun last year.

“He is good on these fast surfaces where there is a low bounce so I am going to have to play well,” he said. “But it is another good match in a strong tournament.”

In the women’s event, 15-year-old Scottish wildcard Joanna Henderson was beaten in the first round by fourth seed Liana-Gabriela Ungur, of Romania, 6-4, 6-4.
