INVERARAY boss Davie MacPherson hopes to retain the Macaulay Cup today but one man may stand in his way – shinty legend Ronald Ross.
The cup holders face Kingussie in the live televised final in Oban and with Ross scoring 15 of his team’s 16 goals in their last four games, MacPherson is not too sure how to stop the Kingussie forward finding the back of the net.
MacPherson said: “I don’t think there are many defenders in Scotland who can stop him scoring because of the style of player he is. We will maybe come up with an idea but whether it will make any difference, we shall see.”
Whilst being a prolific cup team over the years, Inveraray are not so hot when it comes to the league with the Argyll club currently sitting only two points clear of the relegation zone in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division.
However, despite facing the current league leaders today, MacPherson is still confident in his side’s ability to get up for the cup.
He said: “That is the way it has been for the last ten years. It seems to work as a cup team and when these games come along, it’s something different and we seem to raise our game.”
